About OBE

Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope (OBE) is North America’s largest vertically integrated manufacturer, fabricator and distributor of architectural glass, framing systems and glazing hardware. Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, OBE employs over 6,700 people across more than 70 locations in the US and Canada. 

The challenge

OBE hires across corporate offices, manufacturing plants, field roles and executive searches, with a small TA team. As the company grew, that team needed a recruiting system that could keep pace while staying connected to UKG Pro, OBE’s system of record.

Every location hires a little differently: OBE’s sites don’t all recruit the same way, and their talent acquisition maturity varies from place to place. The team needed a system it could shape around each location instead of forcing everyone into one mold. 

More requisitions, same tiny team: Recruiters were already carrying full req loads, and the volume kept climbing. OBE needed to grow capacity through smarter processes and automation rather than headcount.

Manual reporting and limited visibility: Tracking open reqs meant hours of manual spreadsheet work, every week. When leadership asked for hiring data, answers came slowly, and it was hard to catch a data problem before it slipped downstream.

The solution

Greenhouse gave OBE a flexible, recruiting-first platform and, working with OBE’s team, designed a bidirectional integration with UKG Pro so the two systems work together. 

A Greenhouse-built UKG Pro integration (HRIS Link): OBE’s HRIS team valued that Greenhouse had deep, repeated experience integrating with UKG. Employee, job and org data move from UKG into Greenhouse and all new hire conversions push back into UKG Pro Onboarding by API, for a dependable two-way sync.

Automation and scheduling to expand capacity: In-app scheduling and automation reduced the manual work that previously capped recruiter req loads. These tools let each recruiter take on more requisitions without a drop in candidate experience.

Reporting that replaces manual tracking: Greenhouse Reporting gave OBE fast, self-service visibility into open requisitions and hiring activity. Admins can now spot and correct data issues directly, before they reach UKG Pro.

The results

Six months in, the payoff shows up where a lean team feels it most: time, capacity, and peace of mind. OBE is doing more hiring with less manual effort, and the connection to UKG Pro has held steady throughout.

Recruiters who can take on more: Recruiters used to hit a wall around 15 to 20 requisitions. With scheduling and automation doing the heavy lifting, each one now handles up to 30, without service slipping.

Hours of reporting, down to minutes: What once took about five hours a week of spreadsheet wrangling now takes under 30 minutes. When leadership asks for something on the fly, the answer usually comes back in under 10.

Real money back from agency spend: After trimming agency costs in 2025, OBE expects to spend under half a million dollars in 2026, a projected drop of over $1 million year over year. 

An integration they don't have to worry about: OBE has moved 700+ hires from Greenhouse into UKG Pro Onboarding since go-live. HRIS and payroll have flagged no data issues attributable to Greenhouse, and admins can fix any recruiter-entered slip themselves before hire.
