Greenhouse is partnering with BrightHire, an interview intelligence platform that we’re using to make our hiring practices more transparent, efficient, and equitable. BrightHire captures interviews (both phone and Zoom interviews) so they can be replayed, shared, and analyzed.
Why record interviews?
BrightHire records and auto-transcribes every interview, allowing our interviewers to more meaningfully engage with candidates, rather than taking copious notes, which we’ve heard can take away from the experience of an interview.
Memory recall decreases 44% 1 hour after an interview. Even when using structured hiring processes, human nature can impact interviewer recollection or note taking, increasing the chance for bias to impact our decision making. With BrightHire, our hiring teams don’t have to worry about forgetting important details of an interview. In addition, our Talent Planning & Acquisition (TP&A) team uses the improved visibility into interviews to support leaders in making inclusive hiring decisions.
These recordings also aid our TP&A team in mitigating unconscious bias in interviews by allowing us to cross-reference an interviewer’s feedback with the answers you gave in your interview. Doing so will help us become better interviewers and advocates for candidates.
Who will have access to my interview and how will the interview clips be used?
We take candidate privacy seriously, so only the interviewer that conducted your interview and the TP&A team have access to your interview recording.
The TP&A team may share your interview clips temporarily to hiring managers or members of the hiring team for clarification and calibration purposes. The TP&A team may also use interview clips for additional recruiter coaching.
Interview recordings and clips used for recruiter coaching will be automatically deleted after 2 years.
Important reminders
You will know when / if your interview is being recorded. You’ll receive emails from BrightHire and Greenhouse notifying you about your interview being recorded ahead of your interview.
You will have the choice to not be recorded. You are in control of whether BrightHire records your interview. If you’d rather not be recorded, click the opt-out link in the BrightHire notification email.
Interviewers at Greenhouse also have the choice to opt-out of being recorded. If you’re comfortable with BrightHire joining your interview, but a Greenhouse employee isn’t, BrightHire will not record the interview. Both parties have to be onboard with being recorded.
Choosing to opt-in or out of being recorded will have no effect on our hiring decisions. Regardless of whether your interview is recorded, our hiring decisions will always be based on your skills, and performance in our interview process - not whether you’ve opted in / out of BrightHire.
Please reach out to your TA Manager if you have any questions about BrightHire.
